In the spring of 2006 Alison and I traveled to Sooke on Vancouver
Island to visit Andreas and Michele Ruttkiewicz. Andreas and Michele had
come to Montebello for the Challenger Winter Rendezvous in January and
had ordered a kit shortly thereafter. When we visited they were eagerly
awaiting delivery.
For an account of our visit click here. Now here is an update to their story... In the fall of 2007 Andreas registered his completed Challenger II with the marks C-ILVB. The letters LVB stand for Little Vienna Bakery, their business in Sooke Harbour! Andreas painted his Challenger a beautiful red, white and gold with Canadian Air Force roundels reflecting his past life. In our original account we noted that Andreas intended to start a flying school and as usual he has done what he said he would do. Andreas started Airspeed High Ultralight Flight School at Victoria International Airport then subsequently moved the operation to Courtenay Airpark where his facility is second to none. As of this update Andreas has logged 1,400 hours in Challengers introducing people to our world of flight and training new ultralight pilots. Andreas with his impressive determination together with Michele's support has overcome substantial obstacles and made his dreams come true. This is a lesson for all of us with much smaller obstacles in our paths! Congratulations to Andreas and Michele! Bryan |
