Report from the Advance Party of the Canadian Challenger Owners Association Claude Roy, Bruce Brown, Pierre Perreault Our intrepid scouting party braved some rather ratty winter weather to send this report!
On the landing area on the river in front of the Chateau, the ice was measured at a solid 18 inches and it was covered by about six inches of granular snow. The ice in the overnight parking area was also 18 inches thick while the snow there was measured at 12 inches deep. By the weekend, with plenty of skidoo and aircraft traffic, the river runway could be packed however the taxi routes and parking areas are likely to remain covered in deep snow. Our conclusion is that as of today the conditions are excellent for Challengers on skis. Other aircraft on skis may find moving in the marina challenging due to deep snow however along the runway should be fine. Due to the depth of the snow landing on wheels is not advised. Of course all operations will as usual be at the discretion of the pilots in command! There will be large numbers of planes in the neighbourhood so keep your eyes wide open! Monitor radio frequencies 122.75 en route and 123.2 within 5 nm of the Chateau Montebello. The forecast is, to say the least, excellent - a big blue H will be parked right overhead! Friday: Sunny. Low minus 12. High minus 2. Saturday: Sunny. Low minus 10. High minus 4. Sunday: Sunny. Low minus 10. High plus 1. There should be a ton of planes and a few tons of people - come join us!
